Kent Ave Retirement Complex Building
Fire 06-08-07
On June 8, 2007 at approx. 1038 a.m. Station 7, Station 5, Ladder
6, Engine 11, NCC Rescue 20, and Squad 5 were dispatched to a working
building fire on Kent Avenue. Chief 5-10A was on scene and upgraded the
assignment and requested additional resources. The fire building is a 5
story retirement apartment building that was still under construction.
Roofers applying tar accidentally set the roof on fire. Temperature and
humidity were both in the upper 90's this day causing concern for
firefighter safety. While responding to this call, ambulance 5-8 was
involved in a minor motor vehicle crash. Pennsville Police and back up
units were dispatched to the MVC involving the ambulance. Only minor
injuries resulted from the accident and everyone is ok. While the MVC
and Building Fire were going on, crews on standby at Station 5
(Pennsville) were alerted for a double cardiac arrest due to overdose
only a block away from the accident scene. Ambulances from Delaware were
called to assist due to the numerous simultaneous requests for ambulance
service and having one ambulance out of service. Thank You to everyone
involved in this busy time on this hot and humid day.
